Editors’ note: Mother Jones illustrator Zina Saunders creates editorial animations riffing on the political news and current events of the week. In this week’s animation, Virgina state lawmakers justify why they passed a bill requiring women to have ultrasounds if they seek an abortion. If Gov. Bob McDonnell signs the bill into a law, women getting abortions in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy will be required to have vaginally penetrative ultrasounds—whether or not they want one. The animation, as always, was written, animated and acted by Zina Saunders.
