Nearly two months after former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit alleging Roger Ailes fired her after refusing his sexual advances, a new and revealing report by New York Magazine‘s Gabriel Sherman is bringing to light new allegations about the now-ousted Fox News chairman’s behavior with women employees.

It also reveals that starting in 2014, Carlson began secretly recording private meetings she had with Ailes. One recording reportedly includes him telling Carlson that the two of them should have started a sexual relationship years ago.

“Then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better,” Ailes can allegedly be heard saying in one recording.

One former makeup artist for the network, Karem Alsina, also claims that women routinely came to her to make sure they were properly dolled up before private meetings with Ailes. “One of them came back down after a meeting,” Alsina told the magazine, “and the makeup on her nose and chin were gone.”

Sherman’s reporting also includes Megyn Kelly’s suspicion that Donald Trump was responsible for possibly drugging her after the two clashed at last summer’s Republican primary debate:

Kelly received death threats from viewers, according to a person close to her. Kelly had even begun to speculate, according to one Fox source, that Trump might have been responsible for her getting violently ill before the debate last summer. Could he have paid someone to slip something into her coffee that morning in Cleveland? she wondered to colleagues.

Ailes, who was fired following the allegations from other women with similar claims, has denied any wrongdoing. To read Sherman’s reporting in its entirety, head to New York.

We've never been very good at being conservative.

And usually, that serves us well in doing the ambitious, hard-hitting journalism that you turn to Mother Jones for. But it also means we can't afford to come up short when it comes to scratching together the funds it takes to keep our team firing on all cylinders, and the truth is, we finished our budgeting cycle on June 30 about $100,000 short of our online goal.

This is no time to come up short. It's time to fight like hell, as our namesake would tell us to do, for a democracy where minority rule cannot impose an extreme agenda, where facts matter, and where accountability has a chance at the polls and in the press. If you value our reporting and you can right now, please help us dig out of the $100,000 hole we're starting our new budgeting cycle in with an always-needed and always-appreciated donation today.
